I love my pediatrician. I saw him from the time that I was two years old until I graduated from college at 22. We used to joke that my medical file weighted more than I did. When I was in high school, he started to let me sit in the anteroom of his private office instead of the regular waiting room with the crying babies.
The other day, I got a wild hair of boredom and Googled my old doctor. You can now find out a wealth of knowledge about medical doctors online for free. You can see if they have been discipline by their medical boards, where they went to medical school, if someone has made a complaint about them, etc.
You can find all of this information fore free very easily on websites like, U Compare Healthcare, Castle Connolly Medical, and Health Grades. Castle Connolly Medical Limited is a medical database company that has an incredible search engine to check state medical licensing boards for doctor discipline records. Many states also require the State’s Department of Health must issue a monthly press release listing all disciplinary actions taken by the health related boards against doctors. Tennessee is one of them for example. It may be well worth your time and effort to give you piece of mind about a new doctor.
I am happy to say that my mother picked very well when she selected my pediatrician so many years ago. My doctor has a spotless record after over 30 years of service to the community. I would have expected nothing less. The man was and still is an incredible doctor. His advice was invaluable growing up. I still send him Christmas cards to this day, and I hope that everyone can find doctors like mine.
