Great tips! I think taking out a mortgage for the first time can be intimidating, but spending a few minutes a day to research what you’re getting into can make a huge difference on what’s likely the biggest purchase of your life. I would add there are many great web sites that let you compare rates and lenders (like SmartHippo.com, where I work) that can either help you find the best rate or also help you with negotiations. Thanks for sharing.

I agree, just a few minutes research beforehand can save a lot of money in the long run. Even if you just negotiate and you don’t have the rates of other lenders, just by asking sometimes they are willing to drop charges and/or rates.
