Apply To The Masters Golf Tournament Lottery Now To Get 2011 Practice Round Tickets

by Hank Coleman

I recently talked about two ways that you can get into see the Masters Golf Tournament for free.  In that article, I had promised to tell you how to apply for next year’s practice rounds.  I almost forgot if I had not been reminded by a recent reader.  Thanks!

Tickets to the practice rounds at Augusta National Golf Club are distributed by a lottery system, and individuals must reapply for the lottery each year.  And, the deadline for the 2011 tournament is actually fast approaching even though the 2010 tournament has not even started (starts in April).  So, if you want practice tickets for next year, you need to write to the Masters Tournament (not me!) now!

There is a little bit of a process involved to get on the mailing list.

To be added to the Practice Rounds mailing list for 2011, send your name, address, daytime telephone number, email address, and last four digits of your social security number no later than May 1, 2010, to Augusta National (NOT ME!!). The address to mail your information is:

Masters Tournament
Practice Rounds
PO Box 2047
Augusta, GA 30903-2047

Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls At The Lowest Prices Only From NGC Golf!

It is best if you ask to be added to the lottery’s mailing list in a formal, well-typed letter stating that you would like to see the practice rounds of the tournament and include the required information listed above in your letter to Augusta National.

2011 Masters Practice Rounds applications will be mailed in June, after the 2010 Tournament. Those people who applied in 2009 and/or 2010 will automatically receive an application for 2010 tickets. The deadline for 2010 applications is July 15, 2010. Successful applicants will be notified in September of this year. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified. If you do not hear anything from Augusta…sorry….you didn’t make the cut on the lottery.

So, just remember, the key dates to get practice round tickets are…

May 1, 2010   = Letter due to get on application mailing list

June, 2010      = Applications mailed to list

July 15, 2010 = 2011 application due to Augusta National Golf Course

September 2010  = Winners will receive letter with payment instructions

Just one note….If you are selected in the lottery to receive practice round tickets, you will have to pay by a personal check that has to have the exact same name and address that you listed on the application.  I know that that is a random requirement, but it is one of the many hoops that Augusta National Golf Course makes people jump through to keep us all honest.  And, you can only enter the lottery once per year per household.

Still not working for you? You can always buy tickets from people who already have them. Some online ticket agents sell tickets to all four days of the Masters tournament as well as to the practice rounds earlier in the week.

Hank September 6, 2009 at 8:34 pm

Sorry everyone. I have no idea when you can apply for the 2011 lottery. I would send Augusta National Golf Course your letter requesting to be put on the lottery mailing list sometime in the Spring of 2010. Thanks…

I want to get on the mailing list for the Practice Rounds 2011. I was on the mailing list for years; however, the last two years I have not received an application.

HI,
Thanks for the wonderful posting, I applied (in April) and received practice round tickets for 2010 Masters (Wednesday only). I am thrilled!
Here is the question … am I automatically receiving practice round tickets for 2011 or should I re-apply and get on the lottery again ?

Thanks again!

Are you people dense? You have to SEND IN THE MAIL. This is not the place to have your name added. It’s all done through the mail, with a formal letter.

If I am selected for practice round tickets how much will I have to pay per ticket?

Bethany April 13, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Why is it necessary to list your social security number??

Hank April 13, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Augusta National Golf Course requires the LAST FOUR of your Social Security Number. You should contact them if you have any issues with that.

Bethany April 13, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Ok! Thanks so much for all your helpful info!!

How do I apply for more than one ticket for the Masters practice rounds through the lottery? My husband and I both would like to attend.

Hank April 23, 2010 at 11:18 am

If you are selected in the lottery, you have the option to purchase up to four tickets for that day.

Jamie Cockerham April 24, 2010 at 8:38 am

The lottery system works! I have gone twice and if you love golf this is heaven on earth.
Even if you don’t like golf it is an expierence you want to put on your bucket list.

Jack April 27, 2010 at 6:27 am

If i’m Australian and thus dont have a Social security number may i still apply in this manner?

Mike April 30, 2010 at 12:25 pm

How much are the lottery tickets?

Hank April 30, 2010 at 1:16 pm

@Jack – Great question. I would just put that into your letter to Augusta National. I’m sure that they have seen that before…a lot!

@Mike – I forget since it has been awhile since I have personally won the lottery. But if memory serves right….it is somewhere around $45 or $50 per ticket.

Wayne April 30, 2010 at 10:41 pm

Masters Practice Rounds were $36 for 2010

barbara September 2, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Does everyone get their ticket letter on the same day?

Nancee J. Byington January 1, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I missed the deadline for 2-4 tickets for 2011.
Can I get same in 2012?
Any cancellations for 2011?

Thank you.

I applied in May 2010 for 2011, received a letter asking how many practice round tickets, and what days I was requesting, but never heard heard anything else. Am I getting tickets or not? The second correspondence did not ask for money.
