I recently talked about two ways that you can get into see the Masters Golf Tournament for free. In that story, I had promised to tell you how to apply for next year’s practice rounds. I almost forgot if I had not been reminded by a recent reader. Thanks!
Tickets to the practice rounds at Augusta National Golf Club are distributed by lottery, and individuals must reapply for the lottery each year. And, the deadline for the 2010 tournament is fast approaching. So, if you want practice tickets, you need to write to the Masters now!
There is a little bit of a process involved to get on the mailing list.
To be added to the Practice Rounds mailing list for 2010, send your name, address, daytime telephone number, email address and last four digits of your social security number no later than May 1, 2009, to:

PO Box 2047
Augusta, GA 30903-2047

It is best if you ask to be added to the lottery’s mailing list in a formal, well-typed letter stating that you would like to see the practice round tournament days and include the required information listed above.
2010 Masters Practice Rounds applications will be mailed in June, after the 2009 Tournament. Those people who applied in 2008 and/or 2009 will automatically receive an application for 2010 tickets. The deadline for 2010 applications is July 15, 2009. Successful applicants will be notified in September. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
So, just remember, the key dates to get practice round tickets are…
May 1, 2009 = Letter due to get on application mailing list
June, 2009 = Applications mailed to list
July 15, 2009 = 2010 application due to Augusta National
September = Winners will receive letter with payment instructions
Just one note….If you are selected in the lottery to receive practice round tickets, you will have to pay by a personal check that has to have the exact same name and address that you listed on the application. I know that that is a random requirement, but it is one of the many hoops that Augusta National Golf Course makes people jump through to keep us all honest. And, you can only enter the lottery once.

The deadline to request your application was May 1, 2009. People who wrote in to Augusta Nationals were already notified by e-mail or snail mail with application instructions. The deadline for 2010 applications is July 15, 2009. Sorry you missed it….

I have mailed in all pertinent info for 2010 to the MASTERS , Practice Round Tickets, P.O. Box 2047, Augusta, GA 30903. It was mailed prior to 5/1/09; I have never received response or an application for tickets through the lottery. Please explain.

Are you people dense? You have to SEND IN THE MAIL. This is not the place to have your name added. It’s all done through the mail, with a formal letter.
